GOOD HAIR
The notion of good hair has plagued our society and reinforces the idea that in life,
you either have it or you don't.
Good hair is a phrase used within
the black community to
generally describe black hair, or
the hair texture belonging to those of other ethnicities who have blackish
hair.
But good hair most
closely resembles the hair of non-Black people, be it straight or curly.
Images of hair
popularly presented in society are usually know as good hair, and is the
opposite of hair more closely resembling traditional black hair.
Did you catch how this is problematic?
Good hair is found the further you are away from your
black culture and black identity
In other words, for your hair to be good, you must not
appear black or too black at the very least.
The notion of good hair itself breads self hatred.
You're constantly trying to give the appearance of
good hair, whether that be with weaves, wigs, perms, jerry curls, presses, etc.
YOUR TEMPLE
But if God made you perfect from birth, how can your
hair be anything other than good?
And if it is what you would call "bad hair"
is that a result of what God gave you or the way your hair has been cared for?
If your body is your temple, then your hair is the
crown of that same temple.
Whether you are religious or not, your body and
everything on it is all you have.
Anything that's added are just after market parts; not
truly your own, but used to enhance your look and under no warranty.
But believe that you were made with everything you
ever needed to be happy with your hair.
You just have to understand your hair and dare may I
say, exploit it.
So if there is no good or bad hair, then what is it
that we're longing to achieve?
HEALTHY HAIR.
And if your hair is unmanageable, you've yet to reach
a state of healthy.
Tune in next time as we dive into what is healthy hair
and how to achieve it.
